District Council on Legislation Representative

Position Summary:

The District Council on Legislation (COL) Representative serves as an advocate for the district at the Council on Legislation, which considers proposed changes to Rotary’s constitutional documents. This role involves consultation within the district, thorough preparation, and thoughtful voting at the Council.

Reports To:

District Governor

Term:

One term concurrent with the 3-year Council cycle

Key Responsibilities:

·         Participate in district discussions to review legislative proposals and facilitate club feedback.

·         Develop extensive knowledge of proposed enactments and amendments.

·         Represent the interests of the district’s Rotarians at the Council on Legislation.

·         Consult with district leaders to establish support or opposition for proposals.

·         Attend Council on Legislation meetings fully prepared to consider and vote on legislation.

·         Report back to the district on the outcomes of the Council and resulting policy changes.

Requirements:

·         Membership in a club within the district.

·         Thorough knowledge of Rotary’s constitution and policies.

·         Strong analytical skills and leadership experience.

·         Ability to serve without conflict of interest.
