District Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee Member

Position Summary:

The DEI Committee Member plays a crucial role in advancing the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Rotary District and its clubs. This individual collaborates with various committees and clubs to ensure that Rotary's membership and activities reflect the diversity of the community it serves and promotes an inclusive environment where all members feel valued and can contribute fully.

This role is crucial in ensuring that Rotary is a progressive and inclusive organization that values and upholds the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Term:

One year, renewable

Key Responsibilities:

One or more of the following:

·         Advocacy and Awareness: Raise awareness about DEI within the district and its clubs, advocating for inclusivity and equity in all Rotary activities.

·         Club Engagement: Collaborate with Rotary Clubs to assess current DEI practices and develop strategies to enhance diversity and inclusion.

·         Workshop Facilitation: Partner with the District Learning Facilitation Committee to conduct workshops, seminars, and training on DEI best practices and the importance of a diverse membership.

·         Membership Diversification: Work with the District Membership Committee to assist clubs in recruiting members from underrepresented groups, ensuring a membership that mirrors the community demographics.

·         Policy Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of DEI policies and practices within the district.

·         Resource Provision: Provide resources and guidance to clubs on DEI-related issues, including educational materials and best practices for inclusive leadership.

·         Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor the progress of DEI initiatives within the district and report on achievements and areas for improvement to the DEI Committee Chair.

·         Collaborative Skills: Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals and groups, including district leaders, club members, and external partners.

·         Cultural Competence: Understanding of and sensitivity to different cultural practices and norms, with the ability to navigate and bridge cultural differences.

·         Communication Skills: Excellent communication abilities, with the skill to engage in and facilitate open and respectful dialogue around sensitive DEI topics.
